Drug Cases
Most of those serving sentences in our correctional facilities are there for drug related offenses. It is extremely important to contact an attorney if you are facing state or federal drug-related charges for possession or trafficking of marijuana, methamphetamines (meth), amphetamines, prescription pills (such as Oxycontin or Vicodin), heroin, cocaine or crack, hallucinogens (LSD, PCP), ecstasy and other illegal drugs. Typical drug offense cases can involve prescription drugs, illegal drug possession, possession with intent to traffic, operation of a meth lab and conspiracy to traffic.
In many instances, drug trafficking cases involve out-of-state defendants who are charged under Kentucky's laws. These individuals often face unique challenges. For example, bail bonds are often set higher, making it more difficult for these defendants to be released from jail. Feel free to contact me if you or someone you care about is currently out-of-state and facing Kentucky criminal charges.
Many drug cases are based on federal law and are pursued in federal courts. These cases often involve drug possession (the quantity determines state or federal charges), drug conspiracy, drug trafficking, importation of methamphetamines (meth), transporting illegal drugs through the mail, possession of precursor chemicals to be used in the manufacture of illegal drugs, attempting to smuggle drugs (such as onto an airplane), transportation of cocaine or other drugs (such as by truck drivers).
In terms of sentencing guidelines under federal drug law, federal judges consider many factors when determining federal drug penalties, such as the defendant's criminal record, points assessed for the conviction and other factors. Under federal sentencing guidelines, points are assessed for each charge included on the conviction. It's important to speak with an experienced attorney to help mitigate these federal sentencing factors.
